An HR team working for unity

Affinity Education Group is thrilled to be recognised as a finalist in the Australian HR Awards 2019. Head of People and Culture Linda Carroll has been nominated for HR Director of the Year, while one of her team members, Kate McShane, has been nominated as an HR Rising Star. Affinity Education Group has also been nominated for Best Use of Technology and Best Learning and Development Program.

This year the Australian Human Resources Awards received hundreds of nominations for their twenty categories recognising outstanding contributions of best practice and leadership from right across Australia.

CEO Tim Hickey said the Affinity value of Living the Team Spirit was behind much of the work the People and Culture team have done over the past few years to embed practices and programs which support every person working for the company.

“We are proud of Linda and Kate for rising to the top of a such a competitive process,” Mr Hickey said.

Head of People and Culture - Linda Carroll

Currently boasting more than twenty years experience in HR Management, Linda joined Affinity Education Group in March of 2014 as Senior HR Business Partner and experienced a swift ascent when she was promoted to Head of Human Resources by June the following year. Linda has played an instrumental in launching the Affinity Learning Academy training program for employees.

Linda drives an HR strategy aligned to key business objectives and underpinned by a personal philosophy of continuous improvement and personal growth. As a member of the Affinity Turnaround Committee combining Affinity’s senior leadership team and Board members, Linda can influence the development of company strategy incorporating vital people elements.

Linda has previously managed a growing training organisation, and spent ten years as a Human Resources Consultant and Manager with Kelly Services (Australia) Ltd. While working with Kelly Services Linda was awarded the Kelly International Award of Excellence and Manager of the Year (Asia/Pacific Region.)

A professional member of the Australian Human Resources Institute, Linda is also a firm believer in education. Linda holds an MBA and Griffith University Award for Academic Excellence. She also holds qualifications in Training and Assessment and Work Health and Safety.

When asked about her time with Affinity she said, “I feel privileged to work in an industry which makes such a positive impact on our children and to work with such a passionate group of people who are dedicated to early childhood education.”

Employee Relations Manager - Kate McShane

A little newer to the industry, but with just as much passion and enthusiasm, Kate McShane joined Affinity Education Group in August of 2014 as an eager HR graduate and quickly impressed those around her with her sharp mind and keenness to learn all things HR. She was promoted rapidly as the organisation grew and in recognition of her own fast growing skill and talent. Kate moved through the Affinity HR department positions including HR Administrator, HR Adviser, HR Business Partner/Systems Team Leader and is currently Affinity's Employee Relations Manager.

Another strong believer in education Kate holds a Masters of Human Resource Management, a Bachelor of Psychological Science, and is currently studying towards her Bachelor of Laws. She says, “My passion for education, and in particular that of early education started prior to joining Affinity when I worked as an educator part-time while studying.”

Kate says she feels very lucky to have been given the opportunities she has whilst working under fellow award nominee Linda and with the Affinity Education Group.

“The support and development I have received has allowed me to grow significantly and has further cemented my love for Human Resources and Employee Relations,” she said.

We wish Kate and Linda the best of luck for the final awards announcement, to be held on Friday September 6 at The Star Event Centre in Sydney.
