Milestones Early Learning Mudgee has recently gained a familiar face as their new Centre Manager – and Affinity has another career progression story! Starting as an Educator 2019, Glenyse has quickly stepped into the role of Centre Manager and has been loving the challenge and variety the role has brought her.

Affinity is proud to have the talented staff to be able to promote internally wherever possible, and Glenys's’ story is just one of many more. To hear more about how this passionate educator got to where she is today, we sat down with her chat about the steps she has taken in her career.

What was your first ECE role?

I started my career in Early Childhood as a Family Day Care educator in 1994.

When did you decide to make early childhood education your career?

I only intended to work in Early childhood until my children went to school - but 22 years later I still haven't been able to give it up!

Who supported you in your journey?

My family have been so supportive throughout my career and have been the ones pushing me to accept all the opportunities that have come my way. My Area Manager Olga Klaassen who has provided me with great opportunities and all the support I've needed to take them on. Lastly my Assistant Centre Manager Rachael who stepped into her role at the same time, she’s my right hand and I wouldn’t be able to do it without her. We make a great team!

What do you love the most about your job?

I love watching our little people make new discoveries and master new skills – that priceless look they get on their face just makes my heart sing! Mentoring young Educators also gives me so much joy and satisfaction.

What have the ‘steps’ in your career pathway been?

I began working at Milestones Mudgee in November 2019 as an educator and within a month’s time was promoted into an Educational Leader role. Not even a year later in July this year I have stepped into the Centre Manager role - it’s been a steep learning curve, but I’ve been enjoying every minute of it!

Tell us about your centre – what do you love the most about it?

Our centre is a fantastic place to work! Our team is amazing and very close knit and as a 63 place centre the children are able to build connections with every single educator. We have truly become an extended family for all the children attending our service. We are also making our sustainability and nature program even stronger with plans to introduce Bush Kindy in a matter of weeks!

What are your future goals in early childhood education?

I’d like to think I’ll be here until I retire! I love my job and I love working for Affinity. I have never felt so supported in any other job. My Area Manager Olga Klaassen is so encouraging and positive and the team of Centre Managers at our sister centres are incredibly supportive.
