Supporting the Fight for Farmers

A group of child care centres owned and operated by Affinity Education Group have combined forces in the Fight For Farmers with a recent donation of more than $5,000 provided to a single farming family connected to the Tadpoles Cooroy child care center community.

At a celebratory morning tea held on Wednesday 27 February, Affinity Area Manager Louise Billman provided a donation of $5528.10 to Kevina Ussing, whose parents have been struggling for many months to keep animals alive at their family farm in Barraba, resorting to daily hand feeding in the drought-stricken conditions.

“I cannot express how amazed we are by this gesture, and by the fact that so many people have been willing to help us,” said Kevina, whose children Elsie and Archer have been part of the Tadpoles Cooroy centre community for a number of years.

Ten Lifelong Learning Centres owned and operated by Affinity Education Group put the call out to their families and networks to raise the funds through events and collections, and Ms Billman said the response had been immediate and heartfelt.

“Affinity’s values include Completely connected communities, Going above and beyond, and Living the team spirit – this fundraising campaign has inspired our team to activate these values in such a meaningful way,” she said.

“For the children – our Lifelong Learning Centres 'Healthy Communities' theme really came to life as they participated in initiatives and saw the donation value climb through their caring efforts.”

“Of course this is not the end – the Ussing Family’s battles continue – as do the thousands of other Australian farmers who are struggling to survive. But we are so happy to have offered the help we could today, and will continue to be there for this family – and all families – who are part of our centre communities around Australia,” Ms Billman said.
