Shining Star Profile; Janelle Ainsworth, Centre Manager at The Learning Tree Lynwood, WA

“I have built such positive relationships and strong rapports with the children, their families and our wonderful community, I feel completely connected to them all.”

Janelle began her career in childcare when she was just 15 years old as a Junior Child Care Assistant. She said from the very first day she knew this was the path she wanted to take.

“I set my sights on becoming a Centre Manager early on in my career. I took on my first Centre Manager role in 2009 and completed my Cert 4 in training and assessment in 2012. I would love to use this certificate to guide and teach the Diploma one day in the future.”

The role of a Centre Manager hasn’t always been plain sailing for Janelle.

“I have always been chosen to manage centres that are experiencing some challenges - either struggles with low occupancy or issues within the team. This has taught me strength and resilience, and how important it is as a Centre Manager to be completely connected with your families and community during these times.”

Janelle is proud of the environment and culture she’s helped build at The Learning Tree Lynwood.

“Our centre is relatively small, licensed for 54 children, with large open indoor and outdoor spaces with a clean, positive feel and strong links to our local community. Since joining the team as Centre Manager, I’m proud to say we’re slowly increasing in occupancy and our reputation in the local area is building too.”

“The children love our weekly events, generally with 2-3 incursions/excursions per week, and regular casual theme days. Australia Day is always a favourite! We visit the elderly in our community, have formed relationships with the local primary school, and run Healthy Bodies classes such as Aus Kick.”

Janelle recognises the support she has received from Affinity in the growth of the centre too.
“Being part of Affinity Education Group has definitely benefitted our centre through the upgrades we’ve received, the ongoing communications and resources that come from JAM, and regular visits from Tim Hickey is always a boost to the centre as well.”

Janelle’s current priority is to work with the team to further develop their Lifelong Learning approach and school readiness program. With her clear passion for being completely connected to her team, her community and other centres within the Affinity network, we’re sure The Learning Tree Lynwood will continue to flourish under Janelle’s care and guidance.
