30 years of Early Childhood Education: Miss Pam’s Affinity Workiversary

Early Childhood Educator Miss Pam has been celebrated at Milestones Early Learning Jimboomba after marking her 30th ‘Workiversary’.

Miss Pam has been a Jimboomba resident for 36 years. Such is her love of her profession; she has been happy to work well into her retirement age at Milestones Early Learning Jimboomba.

“I began my employment in 1984 when our friends Mr and Mrs Bird offered me the opportunity to work for them as they built the first childcare centre in Jimboomba,” said Pam.

“I studied at TAFE and completed my Diploma and then my Advanced Diploma in Child Services. I knew a career in Early Education and childcare would align with my family life and allow me to blend my passion for children and education while helping to guide the next generation.”

“It feels as though 30 years has gone by fast, perhaps because each day and every child is unique. This has allowed me to build meaningful, lasting relationships, and one of my greatest joys is seeing former students of mine bring their children back to me to care for!”

When reflecting on her career, Miss Pam says quality early education always comes back to ‘the same core principles we always have advocated for children’.

“Self-help skills, manners, sustainability practices and the arts are important. And I truly believe educators should treat the children in their care as our own – with gentleness, respect, sensitivity, compassion, and patience.”

One of Pam’s favourite Affinity values is Being Completely Connected, a value she has embodied throughout her career.

“I believe through having open communication, thoughtful and genuine conversations, and sharing of knowledge and information, we bring out the best in each other and the families we serve, which in turn benefits the children and wider community,” she said.

On the challenges facing the industry, Miss Pam is adamant that ‘a supportive team makes any obstacles surmountable’.

“The greatest reward is seeing the children develop new skills, gain confidence and learn and grow under your guidance. Nothing provides more professional fulfilment,” she said.

“I would encourage anyone with the same passion to reach out and start their study. My work colleagues are fortunate to work for Milestones Early Learning Jimboomba, as Affinity Education Group offers fully funded training that allows our Educators to complete Cert III, Diploma and even Bachelor Scholarships to become Kindergarten teachers and a lot of career progression pathways.
